Fall has officially shown its colors in the Bluegrass. Red, yellow, gold and green leaved trees paint beautiful scenery for our commute to and from work each day. The fall colors make for a pleasant drive each day, especially since the time has changed and we see the colors at sunrise, and then again at sunset.
Thanksgiving is just around the corner, and we’re still deciding whether or not we’ll travel to Michigan to spend the holiday with Carol, Bob’s sister, and the family. If we do, this will be the first Thanksgiving that I can recall that I’ve not spent with my own family. I’m okay with that, I enjoy spending time with Carol and Fred. I just get a little sad thinking about not being able to spend the holiday with Andrew. Since Andrew and James moved to Louisville, we hardly see them. I guess that’s one of the pains of being a mother, you’re babies eventually grow up and move on without you.
Looks like November will be another busy month. Still need to take the Halloween decorations down, which I hope to get to this weekend. By the way, Mya ended up being a dog! Right where we started! Birthday parties scheduled a couple of weekends this month, Thanksgiving, and then preparations for Christmas begin.
We’ve made reservations, with several friends, to take Mya on a North Pole Express train ride with Santa. We’re looking forward to that! Mya loves trains, almost as much as her Daddy, and I know she will have the best time on the train ride with the other kids. I think it’s great they encourage you to dress in your pajamas, which will work out since the ride is at 7pm, Mya will surely fall asleep on the drive home. They will serve cookies and hot chocolate on the train, and when the train turns around to head back to the station, Santa will join the train ride with the kids. I’m really curious to see how Mya accepts Santa this year. In the past years, she wants nothing to do with him, except at a distance.
For Christmas this year, Mya wants everything she sees advertised on TV. Each time something new is advertised, she says she thinks she will ask Santa for that, and he will bring it for her! Boy will she be disappointed Christmas morning! This morning she told us that she wants Santa to bring her a drum set. Bob and I are actually considering getting her one. Mya has always loved music and musical instruments. Any kind of sticks, or anything long and straight for that matter, that she can get her hands on, automatically become drum sticks! This morning she found 2 paint stirring sticks and off she went to play the drums. The sticks eventually turned into a violin, which was very interesting and cute to watch. She put one end of one stick under her chin, held the other end with her hand, and the other stick was the bow. She hummed Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star and that was her violin playing the song. If I ever learn how to post a video, I will be sure to post that one! I love her very active imagination. Andrew was the same way when he was younger. I wonder if it has anything to do with the fact that both were/are technically the only children in the house? The active imagination comes from entertaining themselves? Not sure, but I’m glad they have one and use it!
I read a great book last week. “Sister” poems by Nickole Brown. Andrew had asked me to order it for him, and I couldn’t resist reading it. I wasn’t sure how I would like reading a novel in poetry, but the author kept my attention throughout. Nickole Brown is the same author that has asked Andrew to work with her on her next book, so that was another reason I couldn’t resist reading the book, I wanted to get an idea of what type of writing she does. I can’t really find the right words to describe what I thought of the book, only that it was exquisitely written. Now I’m really anxious for the new book to come out next year!
Andrew was also telling me that another professor of his has asked him to do a piece for a contest. From what I gathered, there’s a chance that this writing will be published. Andrew is pretty excited about that as well. Of course, I am just thrilled about it! I can’t wait for him to get a published piece. I want something I can frame! LOL!
Both of my nieces had their ultrasounds, so it looks like this spring will bring mom’s first great granddaughter and great grandson! One of each! My brother will have his first granddaughter and grandson. The sisters are due within a month of each other, so we will have plenty of baby love going around this spring! Not sure what names have been picked out for certain, last I heard it would be Braydon and Braxton. I can hardly wait, I’m just crazy about babies!
Happy November!
